Laura J. Martin

Laura Jane Martin is an environmental historian and an ecologist. She is a 2015-2017 Ziff Environmental Fellow at the Harvard University Center for the Environment and the Department of the History of Science.

My research interests include:

  • The histories of ecological science and ecological management
  • The relationship between ecological knowledge and human impacts on environments
  • Contemporary and historical practices of biodiversity conservation
  • Bridging the methodologies and concerns of the humanities and the sciences

I weave these interests together in my current book project: a history of ecological restoration as an idea and a practice in the twentieth-century United States.
